Chinese Medicine Specialist Outpatient Services


Question 1:

Is a referral letter required for attending the Chinese Medicine Specialist Outpatient clinics?

Answer:

No referral letter is required for attending the Chinese Medicine Specialist Outpatient clinics. However, it is advised that appointment is to be made by phone or in person prior to the attendance.

 

Question 2:

If a patient has received treatment at one TWGHs Chinese Medicine General/Specialist Outpatient Clinic, will the Chinese Medicine Practitioners be able to retrieve the patient's medical history if the patient receives treatment at other TWGHs Chinese M

Answer:

TWGHs Chinese Medicine General/Specialist Outpatient clinics adopt a centralized electronic patient record by TWGHs' "Chinese Medicine Clinical Information System", Chinese Medicine Practitioners can retrieve any patients' medical records at any clinics.

 

Question 3:

Is payment by EPS or credit card available?

Answer:

Sorry, payment by EPS is only available at Tung Wah Hospital – The University of Hong Kong Clinical Centre for Teaching and Research in Chinese Medicine; And no credit card payment is available at TWGHs Chinese Medicine clinical centres.

 

Question 4:

Is medical certificate available from the Chinese medicine clinical centres of TWGHs?

Answer:

Patients can obtain a medical certificate (attendance note) for free from the Chinese Medicine Practitioner on the day of consultation.

With effect from 1 December 2006, patients can obtain a medical certificate (leave certificate) from the Chinese Medicine Practitioner when he/she deemed it justified and necessary.

Answer:

More information about the Chinese Medicine Practitioners of TWGHs can be accessed by the followings:

Chinese Medicine General Outpatient Services


Question 1:

Do I need to pay for my consultation received at the Chinese Medicine General Outpatient Clinics?

Answer:

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals provides free internal medicine and bone-setting consultation services at the Chinese Medicine General Outpatient Clinics in Tung Wah Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital.

 

Question 2:

How to register for the free medical consultation services at the Chinese medicine general outpatient clinics?

Answer:

Patients only need to follow the instruction of clinic staff to queue up to get a numbered ticket. Next they will register for internal medicine or bone-setting consultation in the order of the number on the tickets at the registration counter. Then they will wait at the waiting hall for their turn to receive free internal medicine or bone-setting consultation at designated consultation room. All numbered tickets will be distributed to patients on a first come first served basis every working day and no booking appointment services are available.

 

Question 3:

When can I queue for taking the prepared herbal paste dressing?

Answer:

To save your time for better queuing order, it is recommended to attend the clinic for taking the prepared herbal paste dressing after 10 am in the morning or 3 pm in the afternoon.

 

Question 4:

I was prescribed with prepared herbal paste dressing for external use during a bone-setting consultation at the Chinese Medicine General Outpatient Clinic. Are there any precautions for applying the dressing?

Answer:

Patients should follow the instructions of the Chinese medicine practitioner / herbal assistants when using the prepared herbal paste medication. The medication dressing is recommended to be applied to the affected part of the body for 4-8 hours each day. The dressing should NOT be applied together with other bone-setting medication, like pain relieving oil. Remove the dressing immediately and wash thoroughly with water if the affected part itches or burns. Consult your doctor or arrange a follow-up session if needed.

 

Question 5:

The Chinese medicine general outpatient clinics offer free medical consultation services only and there is no dispensing services. How can a patient assess safe and reliable dispensing services?

Answer:

Patients will receive prescriptions after internal medicine consultation and then they may purchase the herbs as prescribed at herb shops of their choice. It is recommended that herbs are to be purchased at herb shops with valid retailer license in Chinese herbal medicines as the operation of these shops are regulated by the Chinese Medicine Ordinance.

A modern dispensary is established at each of the 4 Chinese medicine clinical research and services centres under Tung Wah. The dispensaries provide Chinese medicine dispensing and decocting services to patients of our Chinese medicine outpatient clinics who carry valid prescriptions at affordable prices. There are three types of Chinese medicine available, namely the raw herbs, concentrated CM granules and single Chinese herb extracts.

Answer:

Senior citizens who age over 60 and suffering from dental problems.

Will elderly with financial difficulties be given financial assistance for making of dentures at TWGHs BMCPC Dental Health Centre for Senior Citizens?

Answer:

With the donation received from the Lee Hysan Foundation, elderly in need may be granted denture fee waiver if his/her eligibility is determined by the Medical Social Service Department at hospital after financial evaluation. Please contact the centre for more details (Tel: 2332 9737).

How to apply for a place in TWGHs elderly homes?

Answer:

Application procedure:

1) Application form, guideline and homes location can be obtained from our centres or downloaded here. Please return the completed form to "6/F., TWGHs Wong Fung Ling Memorial Building, 12 Po Yan Street, Sheung Wan, HK" with "Application for Admission to TWGHs Elderly Homes" marked on the envelope. For enquiries, please call 2859-7620.

2) Elders may also apply under SWD's quota for admission to our elderly homes. Please apply through social workers of district's Integrated Family Services Centres, Medical Social Services, District Elderly Community Centres, Neighbourhood Elderly Centres, or Integrated Home Care Services.

 

Question 2:

What kind of service does TWGHs provide to elders who would like to talk to social workers?

Answer:

Our District Elderly Community Centres, Neighbourhood Elderly Centres, Enhanced Home and Community Care Services, Integrated Home Care Services and Day Care Centre for the Elderly provide counselling service to the elders. Through individual counseling, home visit or therapeutic groups, the elders are enabled to resolve emotional, interpersonal relationship, housing, financial and family problems.

Application procedure:
Interested parties may contact the respective centre direct or be referred by other NGOs for service enquiry and application.

 

Question 3:

What is the Plan-Ahead Funeral Services Programme of TWGHs? How can I register as member of the programme?

Answer:

Tung Wah has implemented the Plan-Ahead Funeral Services Programme in all our elderly services units, services include:

1)   Funeral service talks and visits
2)   Documents preparation
3)   Photo taking
4)   "Endless Care" volunteers support service
5)   Consultation, counseling and referral services

Funeral Services at discount rate will be offered to elders participating in the Programme. A "Plan-Ahead Club" is also formed to provide updated information and connect members.

Interested parties may contact the respective centre and our funeral parlours for service enquiry and application.

 

Question 4:

Can I be taken care of till the end of life in TWGHs elderly homes ?

Answer:

TWGHs always strives to stay abreast of the changing needs of the residents in our elderly homes and gear our provision of holistic care to achieve their ageing in place through continuum of care. If the health condition of an elderly resident has changed to a state beyond our care level, we will try our best to make suitable referral or other arrangement so as to fit individual elder's needs.

 

Question 5:

What services are available in TWGHs residential homes for the elderly to help people with dementia?

Answer:

A multi-disciplinary professional staff team comprises team of social workers, nurses, occupational therapists etc. work together to provide appropriate care and nursing services to our residents at different stages of dementia. Apart from helping to design a comfortable and convenient environment for our dementia residents, training sessions and treatment groups such as Reality Orientation group and Reminiscence group will also be conducted.

 

Question 6:

There is no immediate need for immediate admission to residential care home for the elderly now but I am worried that my health will gradually deteriorate. Should I apply for such in advance?

Answer:

No, you do not need to apply in advance. Application for long term care services (including residential care services and community care services) is based on the actual health condition and service need of elders at time of application. Upon raising their request, elders will be arranged for a standardized care need assessment to ascertain their impairment level and service needs and hence eligibility for admission to elderly home.

Answer:

Our District Elderly Community Centres, Neighbourhood Elderly Centres, Enhanced Home and Community Care Services, Integrated Home Care Services and Day Care Centre for the Elderly provide comprehensive day care and community care services to the frail elders with the aim of enabling them to age at home in a familiar environment. These services include:

1)   Nursing care
2)   Personal care and home-making services
3)   Rehabilitation services
4)   Carer support services
5)   Recreational, supportive and recreational groups
6)   Environmental risk assessment and home modifications
7)   Transportation and escort service
8)   24-hour emergency support

Applicant should be assessed to be suitable for service through the Standardized Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services.

What kind of community services do Tung Wah organize to the elders?

Answer:

Our District Elderly Community Centres and Neighbourhood Elderly Centres provide a comprehensive package of community services which enable elders to lead a healthy and active life; to further develop their potentials; to enhance the spirit of "productive ageing" and to promote mutual support among elders. These services include:

1)   Various health promotion, social, recreational, educational and developmental activities
2)   Volunteer participation and development
3)   Sustained learning activities

Youth & Family Services


Question 1:

How can I register as a member of TWGHs Children & Youth Integrated Services Centre or Children Centre?

Answer:

HK Citizens who are the holders of Hong Kong Identity Card or Birth Certificate, may register in person at one of our Children & Youth Integrated Services Centres or Children Centre. Once registered, you will enjoy members' benefits, including members' special rate for joining our programmes, periodical Centre News etc, at all our Children & Youth Integrated Services Centres and Children Centres. Membership fee is $30/ two years (from the effective date of the membership). For details, please contact our centres.

 

Question 2:

I would like to enroll my child in a nursery school to enrich his early learning and social experiences. What is the age eligible for registration and related procedures?

Answer:

Our nursery schools provide full day care and educational programmes to young children. Parents may apply for day creche service(serving new born to 2 years old) after the baby's birth, or apply for day nursery services (serving 2 to 6 years old) when the child reaches 1 year and 8 months old. Question 3:

Are there any hotline counselling services for family crisis?

Answer:

On crisis situation, you may call our 24-hour CEASE Crisis Hotline at 18281. All incoming calls will be handled by Registered Social Workers. We provide immediate counselling service and make referrals to other services if needed. For sexual violence and elder abuse victims, our CEASE Crisis Centre will provide outreaching intervention and support services to victims during non-office hours.

If it is not an immediate crisis, you may call our Tung Wah Cares Hotline at 2548-0010, the hotline counsellors will listen and support you by providing telephone counselling and appropriate referring services if needed.

 

Question 4:

Are there any services provided for people who have problems due to gambling, drug abuse and alcoholism?

Answer:

Our Even Centre provides counselling to assist problem gamblers and their families in coping with problems caused by gambling and help problem gamblers to give up gambling habits so as to re-establish a balanced and harmonious life. For people having debt problems, they may contact our Healthy Budgeting Family Debt Counselling Centre. Our centre assists people in coping with the problems caused by debt and provides consultation on handling debts. For details, please contact our Healthy Budgeting Hotline: 2548-0803

Our CROSS centre and "Stay Sober, Stay Free" Alcoholic Treatment Service Project helps drug abusers and alcoholics to give up their drugs and alcohol. We also assist clients and their family members in coping with problems caused by drug abuse and alcoholic dependence.

Rehabilitation Services


Question 1:

How could I apply for the rehabilitation services of TWGHs and How to select among various types of rehabilitation services?

Answer:

For all residential rehabilitation services, applications should be made to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services (CRSRehab) for referral. You could seek assistance from the Integrated Family Service Centres at different districts or medical social workers of public hospitals. Social Worker would assess your needs and give professional advice.

For day rehabilitation services, direct applications are accepted by individual service, such as the Community Support Services, Social Enterprise etc. You are welcomed to browse the web page of our Rehabilitation Services Section for details (www.tungwahcsd.org). You may also seek assistance from Integrated Family Service Centres at different districts or the social workers of public hospitals.

 

Question 2:

Is there any fee-charge for TW’s rehabilitation services? How much is the fee? If I cannot afford to pay, what should I do?

Answer:

Service user is required to pay for receiving rehabilitation services.

Currently, for subvented service in TW, the fee is charged in accordance to the standard set by the Social Welfare Department. Besides, other fees will also be collected as necessary and is subject to revision, such as charges for programme activities and miscellaneous items, etc.

If you encounter financial difficulties in paying the fee, you may approach medical social worker, family caseworker, and staff of Field Unit of Social Welfare Department or your respective rehabilitation unit to apply for financial assistance.

 

Question 3:

How can the application be processed with priority?

Answer:

Except Home-based Training and Support Service, all applications are referred form Social Welfare Department. Under normal circumstances, centres would process all applications according to the received date.

For those applicants who have no home, no family member to take care of or who are under unfavorable family conditions, they can apply for priority placement through the CRSRehab of SWD. Upon receipt of such referral from SWD, our Centre would accord priority in arranging admission.

 

Question 4:

My family member is waiting for a placement in a hostel for mentally handicapped. Where can I get the information about the waiting list?

Answer:

The Social Welfare Department used to disseminate information on the latest service provisions and the waiting list statistics at regular intervals to concerned service units of the SWD and the NGOs, from whom the public can obtain information whenever necessary. For information on individual application, the responsible caseworker can contact the SWD on behalf of the applicant. The SWD would only answer enquiries from the responsible caseworker after verification of relevant particulars.

Answer:

Depending on their ways of donation, donors can request donation receipts as follows:

  • By e-mail (credit card): Please fill in all fields in the on-line donation form as far as possible so that we may mail the receipt to you based on the information provided.
  • By cheque: Please provide information on the intended receipt name and return address when forwarding your cheque to us so that we may mail the receipt to you.
  • Through bank: Please forward the original copy of the pay-in-slip (customer receipt) together with information on the intended receipt name and return address to us so that we may mail the receipt to you.
  • In person: Please advise our staff of the intended receipt name and return address so that we may issue receipt to you on spot and keep a mailing contact.
  • By PPS: owing to operational constraint, we are unable to collect your personal information for sending donation receipts.

 

Question 3:

How long do donors have to wait for donation receipts after making donation?

Answer:

Depending on their ways of donation, donation receipts would normally be issued to donors in the following time frame:

  • By e-mail (credit card): around 2-3 weeks after receiving e-mail (we have to receive payment from the bank first)
  • By mail-in cheque / pay-in-slip (original customer receipt): around 1-2 weeks after receiving the cheque / pay-in-slip (original customer receipt) (pending bank's confirmation)
  • In person with cheque: around 1-2 weeks after receiving the donation (pending bank's confirmation)

Is commission payment required for renting TWGHs' properties?

Answer:

No commission is required for lease concluded through direct negotiation between the tenant and TWGHs.

Is the listed rent inclusive of rates and management fees?

Answer:

No. The rents appear on the homepage are exclusive rents. Tenants are required to make separate payment for rates and management fees.

 

Question 3:

How long will a tenancy last?

Answer:

Tenancy is fixed for a term of 2 years. Tenants may request to incorporate an early termination clause into the Tenancy Agreement which permits both the landlord and the tenant to serve 2 months' written notice or giving 2 months' rent in lieu of notice after the expiration of the stated fixed term to early terminate the Tenancy Agreement.

 

Question 4:

How to rent a premises from TWGHs?

Answer:

To rent residential premises, an applicant needs to provide his / her income proof to justify his / her ability to pay rent. For renting a commercial premises, the applicant which is a company or an organisation shall provide Business Registration Certificate, Company Registration Certificate, list of directors or Business Registration Form 1a / c / d.

 

Question 5:

Is electrical appliance provided in residential flats?

Answer:

Air-conditioners and water heaters are provided in all flats. Some new properties are equipped with refrigerator, washing / drying machine and oven.

 

Question 6:

Can I rent a furnished flat?

Answer:

Yes. At the request of individual tenant, we will provide basic furniture such as bed, sofa and table with chairs subject to payment of furniture fee.

 

Question 7:

What is the initial payment?

Answer:

A new tenant is required to pay an initial payment upon the execution of Tenancy Agreement which includes the rental deposit (equivalent to two months' rent & management fee), 1st month rent, 1st month management fee, the current quarterly rates and half stamp duty.

Are car parking spaces available for letting?

Answer:

Yes. Car parking spaces are available in Tung Wai Commercial Building in Wan Chai, No.9 College Road in Kowloon Tong and Centenary Mansion in Western District.

Are swimming pool and gym provided in TWGHs' properties?

Answer:

Swimming pool and gym are provided in No.9 College Road. There are swimming pools in Elite Villas (Shouson Hill Road) and Villa Athena (Ma On Shan).

How to make rent payment?

Answer:

Tenants can settle the rent by autopay, online payment through HSBC, depositing the cheque in the collection box of the building management office, mailing the cheque to TWGHs or paying rent in person at the Rent Collection Office of the Administration Headquarters during office hours.

 

Question 11:

Can tenant modify the layout of demised commercial premises?

Answer:

If tenants need to carry out any renovation or modification work inside the demised premises, they shall submit letter and plans for TWGHs' consideration. No work shall be carried out before approval is granted.

 

Question 12:

Who is responsible for the repair & maintenance of the fixture & fittings and electrical appliance inside the premises?

Answer:

TWGHs is responsible for the repair & maintenance of the structural defects due to fair wear and tear inside the premises. Tenants are responsible for repair & maintenance of all fixture & fittings and electric appliance inside the premises provided by the landlord or installed by the tenant.

Would the tenant's request for renovation of the premises during the term of tenancy be entertained?
