Green Initiative Item 4 – Photovoltaic Panels

The function of a photovoltaic (PV) system is to generate electricity from sunlight to meet the demand of electrical loads. Grid-connected PV systems in Hong Kong are connected to grid indirectly. The output of the PV system is connected to the electrical distribution system of a site or a building, and therefore the PV system operates in parallel with the electricity supply from the grid to meet the electricity consumption of the site or building. In this way, storage batteries are not required.

The Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) relevant Vetting Subcommittee had approved a total of 6 TWGHs schools for installation of photovoltaic panels as pilot project with total output power of about 1.5kW at each school and the system has been connected to the electricity grid. Details of the schools and the work progress are listed below:
