TWGHs has obtained ECF relevant vetting subcommittee’s approval of “Green roof monitoring and data evaluation” project. A total of 6 TWGHs schools including TWGHs Chang Ming Thien College, TWGHs Chen Zao Men College, TWGHs Mrs. Wu York Yu Memorial College, TWGHs S.C. Gaw Memorial College, TWGHs Li Ka Shing College and TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College.

With the support of the Hong Kong Baptist University, green roof monitoring and data evaluation programme for Tung Wah schools have been completed. Professor Jonathan Wong of the Hong Kong Baptist University has delivered seminars on the benefit of green roof to the students. In addition, the students have involved in various monitoring works such as measurement of temperature and study the biodiversity of the green roof. Through participation in the data collection and evaluation, the students have gained an in-depth knowledge on how the green roof can bring environmental benefit to their schools as well as to the surrounding.

The monitoring results of this study suggested that green roof poses several advantages such as reduced temperature on the roof materials, decreased and consistent heat fluxes, improved energy savings, reduced CO 2 emissions and improved plant diversity.
