Konica Minolta‧Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Green Concert
Celebrating the 140th Anniversary of TWGHs

December 17, 2010 (Hong Kong)- The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Konica Minolta will proudly present Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon emission concert on January 22, 2011 in the Sha Tin Racecourse. Being part of the 140th Anniversary celebration programmes of the TWGHs, the concert also aims to promote environmental protection and greener living style.

In order to rally more public support for this meaningful charity event, the organizer held a road show yesterday (December 17) in Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill. TWGHs Chairman Billy Leung said, “Global warming is endangering the environment and people’s lives. In 2009, TWGHs became the first non-governmental organisation having received subventions from the Environment and Conservation Fund for implementing a three-year green project. This time, we would like to join hands with the public to build up a greener living attitude.”

Yuji Nakata, Managing Director of Konica Minolta, the title sponsor for this event, said, “As an enterprise that emphasizes corporate social responsibility, Konica Minolta upholds the motto of ‘Green At Heart’. Apart from developing green technologies and products, the company strongly encourages staff and clients to preserve the earth. In this meaningful green concert, the kinetic energy generated by cycling would be converted into electricity. This gives everyone a chance to help reducing carbon emission.”

The green concert will be fully supported by the Metro Radio, and will feature musicals and songs performed by pop singers, TWGHs users and staff. In order to make the concert totally carbon-free, a Power Generating Challenge will be held from 16 to 19 January 2011 in Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill. Enterprises and schools will form teams to generate electricity through cycling on the spot. Through the challenge, the organizer hopes more people would understand their daily energy consumption came with toil and sweat, and would start to conserve the environment.

This concert is also the finale of a series of events to commemorate the 140th anniversary of TWGHs. All the stakeholders for TWGHS, including its alumni, service users and friends will be able to recall their collective memories and the core values weaving into a harmonious society. The entry fees collected by the teams participating in the Power Generating Challenge will contribute towards the“TWGHs 140th Anniversary Scholarship and Financial Assistance Grant” for supporting underprivileged students to get into university.

In the road show, pop singer Stephanie Cheng urged everyone to join the Power Generating Challenge. She said she would give her full support to the event as it is a way to promote green living through music. She hoped more people could join and contribute to a greener life.

Konica Minolta‧Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Green Concert – Power Generating Challenge is open to teams formed by 5 to 10 members. The minimum entry fee for each team is HK$25,000. Each team will be given 5 power generating bicycles and ride non-stop for at least one hour.
