With grants from Social Welfare Department, the “Food For All – Short-term Food Assistance Service” was launched in 2009 to provide food assistance to residents in need. The demand of the service has increased recently due tothe impact of inflation and rising prices. Among the households in need, some of them consist of students or people with chronic illness who require fresh food including meats, vegetables and fruits to balance their nutrition. Hence, the operation costs of providing food assistance service has risen. TWGHs welcomes the additional fund of $100 million reserved by the HKSAR Government for financing the operation of the food assistance services as announced by Financial Secretary, Mr John TSANG Chun-wah in The 2011-12 Budget.

Through 38 distribution points over the territory, “Food For All – Short-term Food Assistance Service” mainly provides free dry rations such as rice, noodles, cereal, meat, egg, canned food and baby formula to people with financial difficulty. Later, fresh food is also provided to those in need. In addition, “Food For All” has partnered with local restaurants and convenience stores to offer hot dishes to those who are unable to cook. “Food For All” also provides counseling and employment service for the recipients.

Since its establishment in 2009, “Food For All – Short-term Food Assistance Service” serves more than 11,000 people by providing over 300,000 meals. Besides, a food relief fund has been set up by TWGHs through fund raising to provide food assistance to those low income families who are not subjected to Government’s food assistance service and has served over 10,000 people and 40,000 daily meals.
