Expanding Breast Tomosynthesis (3D Mammography) Service of
Well Women Clinics
TWGHs Board of Directors allocated $4.1 million to replace one of the Digital
Mammography Systems of Kwong Wah Hospital Well Women Clinic (KWWC).
The new Digital Mammography System is equipped with the function of Breast
Tomosynthesis (3D Mammography) which allows more accurate diagnosis of breast
diseases, so that KWWC can provide higher-quality and timely diagnosis of breast
diseases for the needy.
Providing Tomosynthesis-guided Breast Biopsy Services at Well
Women Clinics
Well Women Clinics (WWCs) provide breast screening services to women, including
mammography and breast ultrasound examination. Breast abnormalities cases will
be recommended for further investigations, including stereotactic breast biopsy
and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Currently, only ultrasound-guided breast
biopsy is provided at WWCs and referrals will be arranged for stereotactic breast
biopsy. Stereotactic breast biopsy is a procedure that makes use of mammography
to locate and target breast abnormality and extract tissue samples for examination
by pathologists. It is less invasive than surgical biopsy with little to no scarring. To
strengthen WWCs’ breast services and in view of the increasing number of breast
abnormalities, TWGHs Board of Directors allocated $690,000 to acquire a Digital
Stereotactic Biopsy Device for provision of Tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsy at
KWWC.
Service Enhancement of Screening and Diagnostic Centres of
TWGHs
TWGHs Board of Directors allocated $1.43 million to acquire a Fibroscan System
and an Ultrasound System for TWGHs Endoscopy Centre (EC). The equipment
offers non-invasive and painless diagnosis, with high sensitivity and accuracy in
detecting liver steatosis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. With the new equipment, EC had
introduced new screening and treatment programmes to enhance assessment and
better follow up on liver diseases cases. In addition, TWGHs Endoscopy Centre and
TWGHs Integrated Diagnostic and Medical Centre added 38 kinds of medicines
and 17 kinds of laboratory investigations so as to enhance diagnosis and treatment
of various diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, hyperlipidaemia,
osteoporosis, autoimmune, rheumatic and bowel diseases, etc.
Strengthening Emergency Drug Supply of Tung Wah Hospital
With allocation from TWGHs Board of Directors, Tung Wah Hospital acquired a
smart cabinet to strengthen the emergency drug supply during non-office hours of
Pharmacy Department. The smart cabinet enhanced the management of emergency
drug supply by barcode verification of drugs during stock replenishment, automatic
tracking on batch number and expiry date, alert system for high-risk medications,
etc. The smart cabinet was put into service in June 2017.

X光斷層造影服務
東華三院董事局撥款410萬元更換廣華醫院婦
女健康普查部其中一部數碼乳腺X光造影機。
新置的造影機備有嶄新的三維立體乳房X光斷
層造影技術，能進一步提升診斷乳腺疾病的準
確度，使部門能為有需要的婦女提供更優質及
適時的診斷，讓她們及早發現乳房疾病。
婦女健康普查部提供3D斷層定向引導
活組織檢查
婦女健康普查部為婦女提供乳病篩查服務，
其中包括乳房X光造影和乳房超聲檢查。檢
查結果異常的個案會獲安排進一步檢查，包
括立體定向乳房活組織檢查和超聲波引導乳
房活組織檢查。現時，婦女健康普查部僅提
供超聲波引導乳房活組織檢查，並轉介有需
要的個案接受立體定向乳房活組織檢查。
立體定向乳房活組織檢查是透過乳房X光造
影確定異常乳房組織的位置，然後抽取異常
的組織樣本交由病理學家進行檢驗及診斷，
這個技術較傳統的手術活檢的入侵性低，檢
驗的傷口亦幾乎不會留有疤痕。為了加強
婦女健康普查部的乳病服務及應付不斷增
加的乳房異常個案，東華三院董事局撥款
69萬元，為廣華醫院婦女健康普查部購置
乳腺立體定位活檢系統，提供3D斷層定向引
導活組織檢查。
提升普查及診斷中心的服務
東華三院董事局撥款143萬元為東華三院內視
鏡中心添置肝臟纖維掃描儀及超聲波檢查儀。
儀器能夠提供非入侵性及無痛檢查，準確測量
脂肪肝、肝纖維化及肝硬化的程度。引進新儀
器後，內視鏡中心推出了新的檢查及治療計
劃，提升評估及跟進各種肝臟疾病的效益。此
外，東華三院綜合診斷及醫療中心和東華三院
內視鏡中心亦於年內增加超過38種藥物及17
項化驗服務，提高診斷及治療糖尿病、高血
壓、高血脂、骨質疏鬆症、免疫系統疾病、風
濕及腸道等疾病的成效。
東華醫院加強緊急藥物供應
東華醫院獲東華三院董事局撥款添置一部智能
電子藥櫃，以加強藥劑部於非辦公時間的緊急
藥物供應服務。智能電子藥櫃改善了藥物管理
的流程，包括利用條碼核對補給藥物是否正
確、自動追蹤批號及其有效日期、高風險藥物
提示等。藥櫃於2017年6月投入服務。
藥物貼上條碼標籤，以便準確記錄及管理。
