Participating in Bone Health Programme of Yau Tsim Mong
District Office
The incidence of Osteoporosis is increasing in Hong Kong. There are no symptoms
at the early stage of osteoporosis until bone fracture occurs. To promote bone
health, TWGHs Integrated Diagnostic and Medical Centre (IDMC) continued to
participate in the bone health programme organised by Yau Tsim Mong District
Office (YTMDO) this year. Subsidised by YTMDO, IDMC offered free X-ray bone
densitometry service to 200 women aged between 40 and 65 with the aim to
facilitate prevention and early detection of osteoporosis.
“Pilot On-site Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Programme” at
TWGHs Lo Yu Chik Primary School
The seasonal influenza activity has continued to increase in Hong Kong in recent
years. Influenza can cause serious illness to people with possible complications.
As seasonal influenza vaccination is safe and effective in preventing seasonal
influenza, the Department of Health of the HKSAR recommended primary school
students to get vaccinated, and provided subsidy to eligible students. Since schools
are collective assembly places, influenza can be easily spread among people through
contact. In order to protect students’ health and in support of the Government’s
policy, the Group’s Medical Division and Integrated Diagnostic and Medical Centre
organised the “Pilot On-site Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Programme” at TWGHs
Lo Yu Chik Primary School. A medical and nursing team was arranged to provide
on-site seasonal influenza vaccination to around 450 students at TWGHs Lo Yu Chik
Primary School on 24 January 2018 and 28 February 2018. The Programme aimed
at preventing seasonal influenza and its complications in vaccinated students, and
reducing the risk of influenza outbreaks in schools and the community.
ProvidingMedical Assessments to Sportsmen at TWGHs Integrated
Diagnostic and Medical Centre
TWGHs Integrated Diagnostic and Medical Centre continued to collaborate with the
Hong Kong Football Association Limited this year to provide medical examinations for
over 168 football players of Hong Kong Premier League. The services were extended to
professional basketball players this year by providing medical examinations to basketball
players of Eastern Long Lions Basketball Team. The programme aims at arousing the
health consciousness of professional sportsmen.
Health Education Programmes of Screening and Diagnostic Centres
To promote public health and to foster the concept of “prevention is better than
cure”, TWGHs Integrated Diagnostic and Medical Centre and TWGHs Endoscopy
Centre jointly organised a series of health education programmes, including health
talks and free health checks. The topics covered common health problems such as
gout, osteoporosis and fatty liver.
