Kick-off Ceremony of “Intelligent Robots for SEN Children Learning: Robot4SEN” Project
To develop learning abilities and unleash the potential of SEN (Special Education Need) students, TWGHs Kwan Fong Kai Chi School (KFKCSp), together with 30 special schools and tertiary institutions, successfully obtained a total fund allocation of more than $40,750,000 from the “HSBC 150th Anniversary Charity Programme” and was involved in the coordination and management of “Robot4SEN” Project.
The Kick-off Ceremony was held on 22 May 2017 at the Education University of Hong Kong, with the Hon. CHEUNG Kin Chung, Matthew, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, HKSAR; Ms. Kathleen GAN, Chief Financial Officer Asia Pacific, HSBC; Prof. MA Si Hang, Frederick, GBS, JP, Honorary President of Hong Kong Special Schools Council; Prof. CHEUNG Yan Leung, Stephen, BBS, JP, President of the Education University of Hong Kong; and Dr. Carrie YAU, GBS, JP, Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council as officiating guests. The Ceremony was also one of the “Community-Organised Event for the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR”.
Dr. LEE Yuk Lun, JP, the Chairman cum Honarary Supervisor, said at the Ceremony that the Project was going to develop 60 learning software for intelligent robots in different subjects. The lively multi-media features of the robot will provide diversified learning experience and multi-sense stimulation to SEN students. This helps enhance their learning motivation, concentration and communication skills and thus increase their learning effectiveness. Various learning study competitions, training workshops, experience sharing sessions and seminars will also be organised to the special school teachers to enhance their confidence and abilities in using the robots as a student learning tool as well as establishing a common platform to promote the professional exchange and sharing among the special school teachers. Robot-assisted interactive activities, demonstration and photo-taking zone were also set up at the Ceremony. Guests were able to experience the application of intelligence robot in learning, and also the innovative outputs of the Project.

The Hon. CHEUNG Kin Chung, Matthew, GBS, JP (middle), Chief Secretary for Administration, and Dr. LEE Yuk Lun, JP (right 1), the Chairman cum Honorary Supervisor, experienced the novel project at the robot-assisted teaching demonstration zone and photo-taking zone.
