Chairman’s Message

Chairman Mr. SZE Wing Hang, Ivan

On 14 May 2014, the music groups formed by TWGHs students performed splendidly at the Academic Community Hall of Hong Kong Baptist University. Surprisingly, among all outstanding performers, 12 violinists are primary one students of TWGHs Wong See Sum Primary School.

I would like to take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt gratitude for the efforts of TWGHs Board of Directors and the colleagues of the Education Division for setting up the Tung Wah Academy of Music and offering such an amazing stage for students to showcase their talents.

Besides promoting quality music to students, we also organised various debate competitions, including the co-organised School Debate Competition on 20 May 2014 with The Y.Elites Association, discussing a concerned issue about land and housing development in Hong Kong. Judges and audience were all impressed by their thorough analysis and persuasive arguments.

These concerts and competitions served as great ways for the all-rounded development of students, nurturing their discipline, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. Facing the fierce competition in the 21st century, students get to equip themselves, and we would always provide an excellent learning environment for them.

The goal of this competition was to enhance the ability of critical thinking and comprehensive analysis of students by encouraging them to evaluate public issues from different perspectives. The topic for the debate was “How to make a choice for the land and housing development?”. The champion and the best debater were both students from TWGHs Mrs. Wu York Yu Memorial College.

Mr. Ivan SZE, the Chairman, praised all students for their amazing performances despite the short preparation time and hoped that they could learn how to reach consensus in a diversified society.

The Environmental Campaign Committee and the Environmental Protection Department introduced the “Use Less, Waste Less on My Hand” Charter in late 2013, promoting the concept of “Use Less, Waste Less” in daily life and the sharing of the excess with the needy.
