TWGHs 143rd‧“NOSTALGIA” To continue Its Innovative and Charitable Cause of Servicing the Community

Committed to its inaugural mission to promote the wellbeing of the needy and benefit society as a whole, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) hosted the 143rd Annual Charity Dinner entitled “NOSTALGIA” on 3 March at InterContinental Hong Kong to raise fund for development projects of its services. The Hon C Y LEUNG, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Executive of HKSAR, joined Dr CHAN Un Chan, Ina, Chairman of Tung Wah, in officiating at the event and the presentation ceremony of two donation cheques – worth HK$3,000,000 and HK$1,280,000 – generously donated by Dr. Edwin LEONG and The Sir Robert HO Tung Charitable Fund respectively, followed by presenting souvenirs to the event patrons. In addition to Tung Wah board members, the event was graced by the presence of leading philanthropists and luminaries.

The charity dinner was filled with delightful entertainments, including a live performance by new generation singers Mr Adason LO and Mr Ken HUNG, in collaboration with the choir of TWGHs Lee Ching Dea Memorial College and band members of its affiliate unit; golden oldies by Mr Enrico KWONG; and beautiful repertoire of Teresa TENG by Miss Natalie SIN. Enjoying a night of heart-throbbing nostalgia with eminent guests was famous singer Mr Edmond LEUNG.

The annual charity dinner was co-hosted by Mr SZE Wing Hang, Ivan, 1st Vice-Chairman cum Organizing Committee Chairman, and Dr CHAN Un Chan, Ina, Chairman cum Organizing Committee Co-chairman of Tung Wah. Other committee members included Mr FUNG King Wai, Frederick, Mr Haywood CHEUNG, Mr LEE Shing Kan, Miss Stephanie Joyce TAN, Ms FUNG Siu Wan, Stella, and Dr TSOI Wing Sing, Ken. The committee extended its sincere gratitude towards donors from different sectors for their generous support for Tung Wah. All direct costs of the event have been sponsored by Tung Wah Board of Directors and no administrative expenses would be deducted. Since its establishment in 1870, Tung Wah has been all along upholding its mission “To heal the sick and to relieve the distressed; to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled; to promote education and to nurture youngsters; and to raise the infants and to guide the children.” Nowadays, Tung Wah has become the largest charitable organization in Hong Kong. For over a hundred years, Tung Wah’s medical and health, education and community services have developed rapidly to fulfill the needs of the society and to provide high quality services at low rates. Today, Tung Wah operates over 264 services centres, including 5 hospitals and 27 health services and Chinese medicine services centres, 51 education services centres, 180 community services centres that cover elderly, youth and family, rehabilitation and traditional services, whilst the Tung Wah Museum strives to promote, restore and preserve the heritage and relics of Tung Wah.
