Led by Dr. LEE Yuk Lun, JP, the Chairman, a TWGHs Student Ambassador San
Francisco Tour on a theme of "Promoting Chinese Culture and Becoming
World Citizens" was organised from 19 to 27 October 2017 with 24 student
ambassadors from 18 TWGHs secondary schools participating. Through
the Tour, the Ambassadors had the opportunity to appreciate the life of
overseas Chinese, Western culture as well as TWGHs' selfless charity work
around the globe. The tour was one of the accredited events celebrating
the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.
Before the tour, a series of courses and trainings covering TWGHs’ history,
communication skills and a cappella as well as sand painting workshops were
arranged to get the Ambassadors well prepared for the Tour. Visits to various
historical sites as well as landmark locations including Stanford University,
Google Headquarters and local colleges were arranged to enhance their
understanding of the American culture and explore possibilities for their
future development.
Participation in the Opening Ceremony of the “Episode: Requiem” Exhibition
at the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco on 26 October allowed
Student Ambassadors to get more understanding of the history of TWGHs'
bone repatriation service for overseas Chinese in the past. The Group also
particularly arranged students to pay courtesy visits to the Consulate General of
the People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office
in San Francisco. Through these opportunities, students were encouraged to
learn more about the Chinese and Hong Kong governments’ work overseas,
and reflect on their own roles as a Hong Kong citizen, a Chinese as well as a
global citizen, so as to make more contributions to the society.
A book titled “The Influence of the Development of Overseas Chinese
to China” was published after the Tour to share and spread Student
Ambassadors’ learning of the tour.
