Education Services
Launched in the academic year 2012/2013, the TWGHs Moral Education
Curriculum has progressed into its 6th year. To enhance and promote its sustainable
development and further improve the Curriculum, experienced retired school heads
and professionals were invited to be the Curriculum consultants in the academic
year 2017/2018. They pay regular visits to TWGHs secondary, primary and special
schools for class observation and after-class evaluation. Professional exchange,
knowledge and experience sharing, such as the sharing of innovative pedagogies
as well as practical examples of the best practices implemented in model schools,
have been arranged to promote the culture of both intra- and inter-school
collaboration, self-reflection and self-improvement. The consultants also worked
out the evaluation methods and criteria of the Curriculum with the members of
the Curriculum Steering Committee to ensure the sustainable development of the
Curriculum in the long run.
Meanwhile, the “TWGHs Culture Inheritor Programme” organised for 13 TWGHs
primary schools has entered into its 5th year. A story-telling competition and visits
to the Tung Wah Museum and Heritage Trail in the Central and Western District
were arranged for TWGHs primary school students this year, so as to enrich their
knowledge of the Group’s history and services. An outbound study tour to Kaiping,
Jiangmen and Xinhui was held in April 2017 for over 100 TWGHs primary students,
in which they learnt about the bone repatriation service provided by TWGHs for the
deceased overseas Chinese workers in the early 19th century.
In addition, “TWGHs History Quiz Competition” was held during the academic year
to enhance students’ knowledge on the history of Hong Kong and TWGHs while
increasing their recognition of their national identity and sense of belonging. A total
of 2,400 TWGHs primary 5 students and TWGHs secondary 4 students participated
in the inter-class and inter-school competitions. An award presentation ceremony
was held on 12 March 2018. The Competition has fostered the exchanges between
students and enabled them to better understand the history of TWGHs’ charity
works, thereby encouraging them to contribute to the society in return.
TWGHs Moral Education Curriculum
Implementing Green Education

Green Schools
Fourteen TWGHs schools joined the “Energy Saving Charter” organised by the
Environment Bureau in 2017/2018 to reduce electricity consumption by maintaining
indoor air temperature at 24-26°C, switching off electrical appliances which are not
in use and procuring energy-efficient appliances.
Good for Food Scheme
To promote green living practices among students and encourage them to treasure
resources and caring for the environment, many TWGHs schools participated in
the “Good for Food Scheme”. Through talks and workshops organised by the
Scheme, students learnt the importance of the reduction of food waste. Farmers
held farming activities in schools and students learnt how to convert food waste
into organic fertilisers with a food waste machine in order to promote the attitude
of treasuring food. Students also visited the community kitchen to understand the
conversion of food waste into useful resources. Through various green activities,
it is anticipated that students will put green living into practice with their family
members.
TWGHs Schools Receiving Green Awards
TWGHs schools achieved outstanding results in the “The 16th Hong Kong Green
School Award”. The awards are set out in the "Awards and Honour" Chapter.
