Location: Yau Ma Tei

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Implement patient assistance programs, including introducing the programs to patients, explaining the guidelines and arrangements, answering patients’ enquiries, document vetting, financial assessment and recommendation, communicating with patients during the application process, and providing assistance to successful applicants in relation to the approved subsidy and treatment;
  • communicate and collaborate with stakeholders and hospital departments to ensure smooth implementation of patient assistance programs;
  • assist to manage the medical fee waiving applications;
  • provide psycho-social assessment and intervention;
  • process pre-admission and discharge planning;
  • render multi-disciplinary patient service;
  • render counseling service for needy patients and their families;
  • develop volunteer services and run mass programmes for hospitals;
  • conduct empirical research and data analysis;
  • required to work at hospitals, and may occasionally be required to work irregular hours to meet service needs; and
  • perform any other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should have/be:

  • (a) a degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent; or
    (b) a degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a one-year post-graduate course in Social Work at a local university, or equivalent; or
    (c) a degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a two-year post-graduate course in Social Work or possess a Master’s degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent;
    (Note: Equivalent qualifications are those recognized for registration with the Social Workers Registration Board.)
  • registration with and a valid registration certificate issued by the Hong Kong Social Workers Registration Board;
  • fluency in written English and Chinese as well as spoken English and Cantonese;
  • grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in the HKCEE or equivalent or Level 2 in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, or equivalent; and
  • post-qualification experience in hospital or handling applications for Samaritan Fund is preferred.

Compensation & employment terms:

The successful candidate will be appointed on contract terms with a salary currently at $37,585 per month (Tung Wah Master Pay Scale Point 16) plus a monthly allowance currently at $2,635 and non-accountable cash allowance.  Entry salary and monthly allowance depend on years of recognized experience.  The salary and allowance are subject to downward/upward adjustment or may be frozen as determined by Tung Wah and/or as appropriate with reference to the civil service pay review.  The fringe benefits include paid annual leave, medical services, a dental scheme and training sponsorships.
